This should get interesting...
ReplyDeleteAre the republicans going to run anyone for the county offices? They should considering they've taken over city government, the anti Obama feelings and the corruption thing going on in the county government. The recipe is there for them to break through on the county level...
ReplyDeleteI believe so. I know some above are being recruited.
ReplyDeleteJust added 2011 results from Alcorn County to the blog.
ReplyDeleteIf you really want to do the citizens a service, go pull the campaign finance records for local offices from the circuit clerk's office. The Secretary of State publishes state and district-level campaign finance reports online, but those are not available online for county offices you have listed here. So that would be helpful if you could publish those records, particularly since your average citizen won't go pull records. Nor does the newspaper have the resources to print all of those records. And anyone as a private citizen who does go request records for any candidate, much less all candidates, would likely get some stares or even a little pushback. Still, we deserve to know who finances the local politician's campaigns, particularly since there have been scandals recently. If you want to drive traffic to this site, that would be a heck of a way to do so. You may even start a trend in other counties. More transparency is a good thing for voters, although it may be a bad thing for politicians.
ReplyDeleteGood idea. I have never picked them up for county offices before, but I too think it would be good. I am interested to see what candidates actually follow the reporting guidelines, as there are not a lot of penalties that go along with it.
ReplyDeleteBeen hectic this week but will check for any new qualifiers tomorrow and look up the reporting schedule for the candidates so that we will know when to look for them.
